Dua Lipa recently spoke to Vogue Singapore about her first make-up experiences, her love of lipstick, what she does for self-care, and more to promote YSL’s new Loveshine lipstick, of which she is the face of.

“I feel like make-up for me was a massive trial and error while I was growing up. I think I had a lot of make-up mishaps and trying to figure out what was working for me,” Dua Lipa, world famous songstress, actress and now face of YSL Beauty confesses to me over a Zoom call one night.

ON THE POWER OF LIPSTICK
For Dua Lipa, one kiss—or swipe of YSL’s new Loveshine—is all it takes to fall in love with these ultra-hydrating, high-gloss products.

“I think one thing that’s always stuck with me, and it’s just a very big part of my every day is lipstick. I’ve always stuck to a very nude kind of lipstick and lip gloss,” Dua Lipa continues. “That’s really like my kind of signature: I’d never leave the house without it. Even if I didn’t wear any other make-up, lipstick is the one thing that’s really important.”

“I guess that’s what I love about the Candy Loveshine. It’s the colour that I love.” For those of you wondering, Lipa loves shade 15, Showcasing Nude. “It’s glossy and shiny and gives me what I need. It’s a perfect addition to my everyday.”

ON ONSTAGE VS OFF-DUTY BEAUTY
“Onstage it’s definitely a bit more make-up that I would wear in my every day. I love a bit of shine. I love a bit of drama. For the stage, I feel like you have to translate [your beauty looks] to a bigger audience and how it looks on screen, while my everyday look is much more simple. It’s always like a foundation, bronzer, mascara and lipstick and I’m out the door. Sometimes just lipstick. So it really it really depends on on the day.”

AN INSTANT FACE REVIVER
“I think blush is something that I use to really lift my spirits. I think it just gives me a very rosy, just woken up, sun-kissed kind of feeling.”

ON DUALITIES
“Like you said, I’ve been working with YSL Beauty for five years now. And yeah, it’s just a really natural progression. I feel like I really resonate with… there’s just a real duality between the woman being like hyper feminine, but also really tough and strong. And I think both of those are very me. So I feel like this is just an extension of who I am.

SELF-CARE, DUA STYLE
“Self-care for me comes in different forms, like whether it’s meditation and yoga in the morning, to going out and having dinner with my friends and family in the evening. All those are just like very grounding practices for me in completely different ways. I think that for me it’s very, very important and I consider it part of my beauty routine. So is also having fun, absolutely.”

ON WHEN SHE FEELS HER MOST AUTHENTIC
“I think just when I’m surrounded by people that I love, like I feel like that is where I just feel the most.”
