Dua Lipa talks to Paper Magazine about YSL Beauty and her upcoming tour

Dua Lipa recently spoke to Paper Magazine about YSL Beauty and her upcoming world tour. You can read the interview below or on papermag.com.

What does it mean for you to be the new face of YSL Beauty?

It’s a big honor, and actually a 360 dream that kind of happened. When I was younger, a friend of mine and her mom took me to Paris for a weekend, and they were going to all these shops and buying all these fancy things. I felt a little bit left out, so I went to Sephora, and the first thing that I bought was YSL [Beauty] lipstick. I was like, I feel so chic. It was my first designer thing. I was very excited about it. Now getting to be able to be the face of the fragrance is such a big dream come true, especially because it was just started. I was starting fresh with the team, and then to join into the makeup side of things, I felt like was a big, full circle moment.

It’s crazy to have those moments of being like, “Oh my god! This is where I am now.”

I have pincher moments very often. And working with YSL Beauty is definitely one of those.

Are you excited for your upcoming tour?

I start in Asia in November, and then I go full out from March next year. I’m really excited. It’s gonna keep evolving and changing, and the show is longer than anything else I’ve done, so I want to make it exciting for everyone coming to see the shows, and everyone on tour as well. It’s not the same thing night after night, and we want to just keep it really flowing and have fun with it. I’m ready to get back on tour.

Is there anything you’re specifically looking forward to showing the world live?

Definitely the choreo. I love the building of the show and how it evolves and the kind of story that we want to tell. For me, it’s just how much fun can we have in two hours, you know? How many things can we fill it up with that just keeps you dancing all the way through? I’m a big high energy person, and that’s how I want everyone to experience the show. I’m ready to go nuts, basically.

If you’re having fun and your whole team’s having fun, then the whole audience will see that and have fun, too, right?

Definitely. It’s such a back and forth of energy. What we give, we also get back, and then that hypes us up even more and amps us to high levels of energy. By the end of it, we all look like drowned rats. That’s when you know you’ve had a really good show, when you’re just completely drenched.

What did Radical Optimism mean to you both personally and in terms of your career as a whole?

This album opened a lot of doors for me. It also taught me how to be a better songwriter, how to dig deeper. I really felt like I knew exactly what I wanted from myself as an artist, and I’m really proud of all the opportunities that I’ve had with this album and what I’ve been able to do with it. The opportunity to be able to experiment and explore and try something new has been really special. So I’m excited to give it some new life on the road.

It seems like an album that’ll be a completely different experience to hear it in real life, just because it’s so joyful and celebratory.

Musically and sonically, it’s crafted in a way that is actually quite complex, and bringing all those sounds to to life, you’ll feel the record in a different way, in the way that it’s actually intended to be. My whole idea for Radical Optimism was the organic-ness of it and the live instrumentation, so it’s going to lend itself really well to the tour.

Since you’re the face of the new YSL Beauty Libre Flowers & Flames fragrance, let’s do some fun, rapid fire questions about your scent memories. First, what does Radical Optimism smell like?

When I think about what it smells like, I think back to when we shot the cover. That was in Ibiza. So I want to say it’s hot and citrusy and light and summery. Those are the tones, the scents of it.

What does heartbreak smell like?

Tequila.

What does happiness smell like?

The smell of clean bedsheets. That’s very joyful to me.

What does your home smell like?

It’s cozy. It has woody, lemony, kind of earthy smells.

Dua Lipa to Vogue Netherlands: “Beauty lies within everyone and it is important to find it within yourself”

Dua Lipa was recently interviewed for Vogue Netherlands, where she talks about makeup, her partnership with YSL, and her favourite songs from ‘Radical Optimism.’ Below is a rough translation of the interview and there is also a clip of Dua talking about why she loves Amsterdam.

There she is, in all her glory: Dua Lipa, with a radiant smile on her face, as if she is really looking forward to this day full of interviews with curious journalists, flown in from all over the world. It’s a glorious day in Paris. Not far from the famous Place de République, YSL Beauté presents the latest addition to the YSL Loveshine flag, YSL Candy Glaze: a sparkling lip gloss in the form of a lipstick.

We wait patiently until it is our turn to ask the pop star a few questions, and just when we finally come face to face with the roguish Londoner, there appears to be some trouble with the lighting. No problem for a written interview, but of course we would also like to capture Dua Lipa on video. It takes so long that we wonder if she has the patience to stay put. And so we try to make some jokes so as not to send her, but especially ourselves, into total panic. After all, we also have to catch a train back to Amsterdam.

A Dutch word

When the singer hears that someone from Amsterdam is standing in front of her, she lets out a cry of joy and says almost without an accent: “What did you do today?” Dua Lipa tells her favorite sentence in Dutch later, on video. It turns out that Lipa has family in the Netherlands, and that she has been regularly in the capital since childhood. Lipa remains exceptionally calm amid the whole lighting debacle. She doesn’t snap at people, she smiles kindly, entertains us with cheerful grimaces, looks at the light boys (there were no light girls or other light people) and jokes in unadulterated Dutch: “Hey boys, come on!” Of course they don’t understand that and it doesn’t speed things up either, but we do burst out laughing.

When the lighting problem is finally solved after more than fifteen minutes of jokes and jokes, it turns out that we will no longer catch the last train of the day to Amsterdam. Anyway, there are worse places to be stranded and so we continue with the interview undisturbed. About beauty, her radical optimism and her ideal lip shade.

An interview with Dua Lipa

What does beauty mean to you?
“Beauty is so individual and unique. I think beauty lies within everyone and it is important to find it within yourself. I am learning to love myself a little more every day.”

Speaking of love: what makes you attracted to someone?
“Personality and character. For me, that remains the most beautiful thing about a person.”

You have been working with YSL as a brand ambassador for some time now . What have you learned so far?
“I learned that I can walk through the desert in heels. I learned that I can hold an eagle. The YSL team has pushed me out of my comfort zone on so many levels and in the best way possible. I feel that after each campaign I have become a little more resilient and have gained strength.”

When was the last time you thought, “If I can walk in heels in the desert, I can do this too”?
“Every time I have to get out of bed at 4 a.m., I think back to the desert and say to myself: I can do this!”

You must have learned a lot about makeup too?
“Yes, and especially how I can create the most beautiful version of myself with make-up. For example, I know that I feel more beautiful with nude than with red tones. Number 44 from the Candy Glaze collection is standard in my bag. It makes me feel like I’ve made some effort, without putting in a whole lot of effort. Do you understand?”

What strikes you most when you are in Amsterdam?
“All those bikes! I wish we cycled more in London. I find it so amazing how this is such a big part of daily life in the Netherlands. It’s something I think about a lot when I’m in Amsterdam. And then that infectious smell of waffles, wherever you are. I always go straight for the waffles and poffertjes. I can really recommend stroopwafels to everyone. And chocolate sprinkles from De Ruijter!”

Your new album will be released on May 1. Tell!
“It’s called Radical Optimism and it’s about staying grounded and graceful in the midst of all the chaos. I think you have to take life as it comes and even be able to remain optimistic when things don’t go your way. It is important to persevere and be resilient.”

What’s your favorite song?
“Difficult, but I think These Walls or Illusion .”

What are you radically optimistic about?
“About everything!”

Dua Lipa talks to SheerLuxe about YSL, skincare, pre-show rituals, and more

Dua Lipa was recently interviewed by SheerLuxe about becoming a brand ambassador for YSL, her must-have skincare items, pre-show rituals, and more. Read the full interview below.

What Are You Wearing Today?
I’m in a full Saint Laurent fit today. Straight-leg, mid-blue jeans, a silk tank top and a boxy tuxedo jacket – a YSL brand signature. Accessories wise, I’m wearing pointed-toe pumps and some simple gold earrings.

One Thing That’s Always In Your Bag?
I can’t leave the house without lipstick. If I wear no make-up at all but put lipstick on, I still feel put-together and more alive. The LoveShine Candy Glaze in colour 15 is my go-to, but I also love shade 44 – they’re both lovely versions of the perfect warm nude. Generally, I lean towards brown shades as they suit my skin tone best.

Your First Beauty Memory?
I can remember watching my mom get ready every morning. I loved watching her apply her eyeliner, which is something I still try to emulate today. Eyeliner is probably the first beauty product I was drawn to because of those memories.

Key Skincare Must-Haves?
I try to keep my skin clean and hydrated. I always double cleanse, I love moisturising masks – anything with hyaluronic acid catches my attention – and I’ll never leave the house without SPF. Moisturisers and face creams are typically the products I go through quickest. My preference is something lightweight that won’t clog my pores.

Biggest Beauty Regret?
I don’t know why I did it, but I used to put mascara on my eyebrows. I think the thought process was trying to cheat a tinted brow gel before they were a thing. Now I keep things pretty minimal with just a clear brow gel to shape and keep the hairs in place.

Self-Care Rituals?
Magnesium is a secret weapon of mine. This, along with a silk face mask, puts me straight to sleep. I also use a lot of Epsom salt baths – especially after dance rehearsals to heal my muscles and relax.

Pre-Show Rituals?
It’s lots of tea followed by vocal and dance warm-ups – and just hanging out with my dancers to get each other hyped up for the show. I do think movement is so important. Yoga helps me re-centre and feel more present, which always shifts my energy into a more positive place. After that, it’s pretty much just keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

Best Spot For A Night Out In London?
This may surprise people, but I don’t tend to go out that much, but I do love a night at Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone. My drink order is always a dirty martini.

Favourite Red-Carpet Look?

I really loved my look at the Grammys this year. I wore a Courrèges dress which had an amazing deep V-neck and this really cool metallic finish. It’s so fun to experiment with different looks at events like this.

Advice To Your Younger Self?
Honestly, I would tell myself I’ve got this and not to worry so much about everything. When it comes to beauty, it would be that less is more – especially with skincare. We always wonder why our skin’s better in the summer and it’s because we strip things right back. This winter, I actually went back to my summer rituals to keep things simple and it’s been such a game-changer.

Dua Lipa is the new YSL Beauty ambassador

Dua Lipa has announced that she is the new ambassador for Yves Saint Laurent Beauty. She is launching their new makeup collection, YSL LOVESHINE, available March 15th. Dua previously served as the face of their Libre fragrance since 2019.

With Lipa’s expanded role, YSL Beauty hopes to appeal to a new generation of beauty consumers. It is also expanding its lip offerings following the success of its Candy Glaze, a plumping lip gloss stick, which gained virality on TikTok. Under a new banner, LoveShine, the label will debut additional offerings, including a Lip Oil Stick, this year.

The news comes after the label deleted all of its posts on Instagram citing a “social media reset,” a move the brand hopes to pair with social media stunts in the near term to further lure Gen-Z shoppers.

“This move is signatory of YSL Beauty entering a new chapter,” said Jordan Radi, global director of consumer engagement. [x]
